Hi, I'm Skylar Taketa

I am a Japanese Irish American. I am a daughter and a sister. I'm also an artist and an athlete. I love to travel and immerse myself in new cultures, and explore the art and history of different places. I'm always listening to music. After taking a mini course at my high school on the Beatles, I'm a total fan! One of my favorite paintings is one I painted of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. I love reading—especially the classics, and old books most people consider irrelevant. When I'm chilling out, I love relaxing and cuddling with my sweet cat Finn, or tossing a ball with my golden retriever, Bailey.

I've been obsessed with the ancient world since I was six years old and pulled D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths off a shelf and didn't put it down until I'd read it twice! That obsession has taken me further than I expected — into Latin, into a little Greek, into the mythology and literature of Celtic Ireland, into questions about whose stories get told and whose get left out. I'm heading to college to study Classical Civilizations, which is the academic name for what I've been doing on my own for most of my life.
